Portrait Process
Yes I want the free guide to creating better paintings!
A portrait is a unique piece of art that will be cherished for many generations to come. It will stand the test of time long after the family photos have faded. Together we will create a beautiful heirloom.
Creating a portrait is a collaboration between you and the artist. The first step is to discuss the desires and details of the portrait envisioned. The artist will help guide you in matters of composition, color, and size. Let your imagination drive the rest!
Prices listed are estimates and will be finalized once all the details have been taken into account. Prices are based upon the following criteria: number of subjects including pets; how much of the body is depicted, size of canvas; details of clothing, jewelry and props; and complexity of the background. Reference photos will be taken by the artist.
Framing costs, shipping fees and State/City taxes and travel expenses if necessary, are not included in pricing.
At the first meeting, we will discuss the details and perform a photo session. I always insist on taking my own photographic references, but if for reasons such as the sitter has passed away, I have been able to work from high resolution photographs or video. A contract is signed regarding details of the commission and a non-refundable 50% deposit is paid. A second meeting may be scheduled if refinement of positioning of the subjects or close up pictures for jewelry and hand details were not able to be obtained at first meeting. Next I will complete a computer composite of the reference material to depict the final composition of the portrait. This image will be emailed to you for your approval. When it is time for the completed portrait to be delivered, the balance is due prior to shipping.
The following size estimates are based on approximately life sized, single figure, in a classic style with simple tonal background. If you are interested in multiple figures, please contact the artist to discuss canvas sizes. Listed are approximate sizes and may change based on composition requirements. Thank you for your interest.
